This garden was completed last year. It’s a smal

This garden was completed last year. It’s a small backyard in which we removed some large, sick emerald green arborvitaes and replaced them with skip laurels. These laurels grew fast and are now in full bloom, providing the privacy my client was looking for.

We relocated all the existing plants (I only get rid of the plants if they are invasive), and I incorporated some native plants such as clethras, Amsonias (which is in bloom with lilac and together look fabulous), geranium maculatum, and phlox paniculata. This year, we added Jacob’s ladder, and to add a touch of yellow, we added coreopsis. The best part is that my client is extremely happy with the results.

This plan was done to renovate the front yard of a house since the left side has a drainage issue. The excess water accumulates and doesn’t drain anywhere. The plan is to add soil to provide the proper level and use plants to help with this problem. Our goal is to remove a part of the lawn, create a colorful garden that attracts life, and, of course, resolve the drainage problem.

The right side, under a huge maple, is also moist and shaded, so I provide my client with plants (mostly groundcovers) that will add color and textures and thrive in that condition. Swipe to see the ‘before’ plan.

Yesterday was installation day.
I enjoy the process of designing, but it’s even more exciting to see your ideas come to life during the installation process.

Beyond making spaces improve aesthetically, it is solving existing problems. I like to use native plants; many are appropriate to be used according to the types of soil/sun and conditions you have in your garden. My idea is to make your garden adapt to our climatic conditions and persist over time.
